Education
Education is a key component of our mission. By giving members of our community opportunities to fill their lives with music, we hope to enrich the lives of all Fishers residents.
Our concerts are the core of our education program. Special program books are available at our concerts designed especially for kids, to provide fun activities and enrich their understanding of the program. You can further enrich your concert experience by listening to the pieces in advance. By purchasing CDs, borrowing them from the Fishers Library, or downloading music through services such as iTunes or Rhapsody, you can listen to the music you will be hearing at the concert. Our program notes will provide valuable educational insight as well.
Student musicians will have the opportunity to audition for our Jongsun Lim Young Artist Competition. The winners of the Senior Division 1st Place Prize and the Junior Division 1st Place Prize, will win an opportunity to solo with the Fishers Chamber Orchestra. A prize for "Best Performance by a Fishers Resident" will also be given.
FCO musicians will be available to visit schools and introduce our music to Fishers students in educational programs that are suitable for K-12 schools.
In addition to working with their school teachers, students who are enrolled in their school band or orchestra program and plan to take a chamber ensemble to the annual I.S.S.M.A. Solo Ensemble Contest may like to receive extra coaching from FCO musicians. We would be happy to coordinate coaching experiences with school music teachers.
Last, our Community Players Directory and Festival is a means for amateur musicians to find like-minded friends with whom they can make music, receive coaching from FCO musicians if desired, and perform in our Festival. We hope that all these educational programs will benefit and enrich lives in Fishers!
